SCAC Football Podcast


This week on the SCAC Football Podcast; Director of Communications Russell Kramer sat down with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Shane Bowser of Millsaps along with Defensive Player-of-the-Week Clay Adams of Rhodes.

Bowser ran for 150 yards on 21 carries (7.1 yards/carry) in the Majors’ 38-24 win over visiting Austin College. He also added two touchdowns while accumulating 189 all-purpose yards. Bowser had a long run of 26 yards. He also caught two passes for 39 yards.

Adams tallied seven tackles while also intercepting two passes and returning them for a total of 53-yards and also chipped in with one pass break up in Rhodes’ 22-16 win at Trinity.

SCAC Field Hockey Podcast


This week on the SCAC Field Hockey Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Lindsey Gurkovic of Rhodes and SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Taylor Helms of DePauw.

Gurkovich scored both game winning goals for Rhodes this weekend in wins over Centre and Transy, both of which were on the road. Gurkovich found the back of the cage at Transy just minutes into play and scored a second goal within 10 minutes of the first.

On Sunday at Centre, Gurkovich netted a goal off of an assist from Sara Sanders mid way through the first half. Gurkovich scored three goals this weekend on just seven shots. Lindsey leads the team in points with 12 thus far this season on four goals and four assists.

Helms showed outstanding defensive skill this weekend in leading the Tigers to two victories on the weekend. In the SCAC opener at Sewanee, Helms showed outstanding individual skill, especially on penalty corners, limiting her opponent’s opportunities for shots on goal. Her strong second half performance helped the Tigers pull out the win.

On Sunday against Division II Limestone, Helms had another big game, especially during the overtime periods, leading the Tigers to a 2-1 victory.

SCAC Volleyball Podcast


This week on the SCAC Volleyball Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Co-Players-of-the-Week Emily Perkins of Colorado College and Lindsay Thompson of Southwestern.

Perkins hit .348 while averaging 3.47 kills per set to lead Colorado College to four victories last weekend at the SCAC Crossover matches at Southwestern University. Defensively, Perkins averaged 3.27 digs and .533 blocks per set. She posted her fourth and fifth double-double of the season on Saturday, including a 21-kill, 20-dig performance during the five-set victory over Millsaps. Perkins averaged 5.6 points (kills + aces + blocks) per contest during the weekend.

Thompson had 55 kills in 17 sets for a 3.24 kills/set average and had only 10 errors for a .375 hitting percentage. She also led the Pirates in block with 22 to lead Southwestern to a perfect 4-0 conference record.

SCAC Women's Soccer Podcast


This week on the SCAC Women's Soccer Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC C0-Offensive Players-of-the-Week Ali Ryan of Austin College and Alicia Plotky of Birmingham-Southern.

Kramer also caught up with SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Kelli Lenz of Centre.

Ryan scored twice in Austin College’s lone game last week and added an assist, giving the junior six goals in five games so far this year. Ryan has scored a goal in every game so far this season for the ‘Roos.

Plotky scored a hat trick in the Panthers’ home opener on Sunday against Agnes Scott College, and also recorded two assists in the 7-0 victory. One of her assists was on the first goal of the game, which would become the game-winner. Plotky also led the team with five shots, four of those on-goal.

Lenz earned a pair of shut-out wins on the road this past weekend for the Colonels. Saturday afternoon in Hanover, Ind., Centre defeated Hanover College 1-0. Lenz faced seven shots and recorded four saves in the net.

Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio, Centre defeated the College of Mount Saint Joseph 4-0 in which Lenz faced eight shots and recorded four more saves. In over 500 minutes of play, Lenz has earned three shutouts and posts a GAA of 0.66.

In seven opening games, Lenz’s leadership in goal has helped earn the Colonels four shut-outs and has limited their opponents to three goals and only seven corners.

SCAC Men's Soccer Podcast


This week on the SCAC Men's Soccer Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Sam Temple of Austin College.

Kramer also spoke with SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Chris Jackson of Centre.

Temple
scored five goals, including a first half hat trick, despite playing less than half the game in a 6-0 victory over Dallas Christian College in Austin College’s lone match of the week. Temple has a team-best eight goals in six games this season.

Jackson had a great weekend for the Colonels in the net. Over the weekend, the Colonels traveled to Mount Saint Joseph’s on Friday and Wilmington College on Saturday. In the first match at MSJ, Jackson made several breakaway stops on his way to five total saves in the game, to secure the win for Centre.

The following game, Jackson posted his third shutout of the year against Wilmington College, making three saves along the way for the Colonels. helping Centre improve to a 5-1 record. On the weekend, Jackson made eight saves and had a .50 GAA.

SCAC Football Podcast


This week on the SCAC Football Podcast; Director of Communications Russell Kramer sat down with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Michael Engle of DePauw, Defensive Player-of-the-Week Matt Finke of Austin College and Special Teams Player-of-the-Week Jordan Albright of Centre.

Engle equaled a DePauw single-game school record with six touchdown passes as the Tigers' cruised to a 45-16 season-opening victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Engle completed 26-of-36 passes for 300 yards in just his second career start, and tied the school mark of six TD passes set by Spud Dick against Rhodes last year. The senior signal-caller tossed two TD each passes to all-American wideout Alex Koors (7 and 12 yards) and Nathan Evans (9 and 5 yards). Jon Ellis (12 yards) and Bobby Coburn (1 yard) each hauled in one scoring reception from Engle.

Finke tallied five tackles (two solo) while also intercepting two passes and returning one interception 68-yards to the Texas Lutheran one-yard line. Both interceptions led to Kangaroo touchdowns in a 20-14 home win over TLU.

Albright returned four punts for 119 yards for an average of 29.8 yards per punt in the Colonels’ 35-0 home-opening win over Maryville (Tenn.). Albright had a long return of 54 yards in the game.

SCAC Field Hockey Podcast


This week on the SCAC Field Hockey Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Addie McDonnell of DePauw and SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Sydney White of Centre.

McDonnell contributed to the Tigers' wins over Transylvania (7-0) and Wooster (1-0). In Saturday's win over Transylvania, she score just 5:24 into the match, and added her second goal of the game midway through the second half.

McDonnell
generated many offensive bursts for the Tigers on Sunday against Wooster, showing outstanding speed and creating several break-away opportunities. By creating pressure on the Wooster defense.

White overcame a slow start in the first half of Saturday’s 1-0 Colonel win over Ohio Wesleyan to put on a dominant defensive display in the second half and another superior match in Centre’s 1-0 win over Denison.

White shutout down any chances for Centre’s opponents to develop a legitimate attack down her side of the field and contributed greatly to Centre’s commanding possession and shot totals. She also made a tremendous block on a late penalty corner attempt by Denison with less than two minutes to play to preserve Centre’s fourth consecutive shutout victory.

SCAC Volleyball Podcast


This week on the SCAC Volleyball Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Player-of-the-Week Laura Goldsmith of Colorado College.

Goldsmith averaged 6.53 assists per set as Colorado College split a pair of matches. During Saturday’s five-set loss to #16 Eastern University, she finished with a career-high 33 digs.

Goldsmith
tallied 20 or more digs in all four matches and jumped up to 24th-place on Colorado College’s career digs list with 611 just nine matches into her sophomore season.

SCAC Women's Soccer Podcast


This week on the SCAC Women's Soccer Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Brittany Garr of Centre and SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Kaitlin Elledge of Austin College.

Garr continues to be a driving force for the Colonels offense, currently leading the team with five goals and two assists. Saturday evening, while only playing 15 minutes, she earned a goal in the Colonels 5-0 win over Spalding.

Sunday afternoon against Berry, Garr earned two more goals and also posted three shots on the outing. For the weekend, Garr earned 6 points for the Colonels. On the season, Garr has earned 12 points in four games.

Elledge had a pair of shutouts over the weekend, blanking East Texas Baptist and the University of Dallas.
Elledge
has three clean sheets in four games this season, surrendering a lone goal during a 4-0 start for Austin College.

SCAC Men's Soccer Podcast


This week on the SCAC Men's Soccer Podcast Director of Communications Russell Kramer had the chance to catch up with SCAC Co-Offensive Players-of-the-Week Tyler Evans of Birmingham-Southern and Ryan Garvey of Centre.

Kramer also spoke with SCAC Co-Defensive Players-of-the-Week Kyle Porter of Trinity and Andy McGhie of Colorado College.

Evans scored a hat trick against University of the Ozarks, Saturday, and recorded an assist against Huntingdon, Sunday, to help the Panthers win their second straight tournament title at the Kyle Rote, Jr., Invitational, hosted by Sewanee. For his efforts, Evans was named Offensive MVP of the tournament.

Garvey had a prolific weekend for the Colonels. Against Oberlin College on Friday, Garvey was a constant attacking threat, hitting the bar and post along with calling on the OC keeper to make several special saves. Garvey’s play continued Saturday night, in the Championship game against Hiram College, as he earned his first hat-trick of his Centre career, from five shots on goal. On the weekend, Garvey finished with 3 goals and 1 assist, earning him Co-Most Valuable Player award and helping the Colonels improve to 3-1 on the season.

Porter led a Tiger defense that produced two shutout victories over the weekend, defeating both Hardin-Simmons and UT-Dallas. Porter and the Trinity defense yielded just five total shots in the two games, including zero shots in the second half of the 1-0 win over UT-Dallas on Saturday. Porter, who missed last season due to injury, has started all five games this season, and has led a stingy Tiger defense that has allowed just four goals and 25 shots in the first five games.

McGhie posted back-to-back shutouts to help Colorado College post a 1-0-1 record for the week. During the 0-0 tie with Penn State-Behrend on Sunday, he stopped six shots en route to his third shutout of the season and the fifth of his career. McGhie now has played 330:43 since allowing a goal against Willamette on a penalty kick. He had to make only one save during Friday’s 2-0 victory over McMurry University.
